Monday Musings: Rest

This weekend was overall uneventful. That’s not to say we didn’t have a good weekend, or that we sat around doing nothing. Friday we spent time with my husband’s family, Saturday with my family, and then with his extended family on Sunday. There was some work sprinkled throughout, but nothing back breaking or mind bending. Just a simple, family oriented weekend. A weekend of rest.

And it was awesome.

Nothing I do is physically demanding (though arguably, being pregnant makes some physical activities feel nigh on to a workout), but overall most of what I do requires sitting. I could easily justify writing seven days a week, or reading every spare moment I have, but I don’t. On the weekend I try to rest my brain because when it’s time to get up out of bed on Monday morning, I’m ready and raring to go. The time away from work allows my mind to reload and process and be more attuned and alert throughout the week. I need to take time to rest if I want to be any good at what I do. I think most of us are that way.

So my encouragement this week would be that if you find yourself burning both ends of the night, or working non-stop, find some time to rest. You might just be pleasantly surprised by the benefits.
